Arabian Adventure

Soft adventure
‘Soft’ adventure options in the Sultanate range from camping under the stars, dolphin-watching and scuba diving to a camel safari in the desert, camping with genuine Bedouins, abseiling, rock climbing, caving and trekking. And for adrenalin junkies who enjoy dangling precariously from a line 300 metres above the ground there are zip-slides and Via Ferrata (www.holiday-in-oman.com).
Date farming
Nizwa is renowned for its succulent dates, harvested from a palm grove that stretches five miles along two dry wadi gullies fed by Falaj Daris, an ancient irrigation system and World Heritage Site. Khalas and khunaizi dates are favourites and account for roughly half of all date palms that grow in the lush gardens. Other notable types among 40 different varieties grown in Nizwa, ranging in colour from bright yellow to dark red, are bunaringah, handhal, khasab, naghal, and qashkantarah.
